RELIGION: text used is Walking by Faith, published by Brown-Roa.
Topics covered include creation, God and Jesus, the church, sacraments, Christian morality, lives of the saints, and drug awareness. There are also opportunities for prayer, liturgy and outreach activities.
READING READINESS: text used is Reading published by Macmillan/McGraw-Hill.
Topics covered include phonological awareness, letter and sound recognition, decoding, high frequency word recognition, story comprehension, development of listening, writing and speaking skills.
MATHEMATICS: No text used.
Instruction is given in counting, number recognition, sets, time, one to one correspondence, patterns, equivalency, meaning of numbers, addition and subtraction with use of manipulatives, graphing and symmetry.
SCIENCE: No text used.
Covers caring for living things (both animals and plants), properties of matter, nutrition, weather, and the seasons.
SOCIAL STUDIES: No text used.
Covers holidays and celebrations, community helpers, the election process, presidents, Maryland, and some current events.
MUSIC, LIBRARY and PHYSICAL EDUCATION .
These subjects are taught by special area teachers and are usually scheduled once a week for the kindergarten.
