Description: Join first grade teachers Anita Grauer and Sue Dover for a hands-on session of math activities and assessments that are used in the classroom to build student confidence and fluency in math. Bring your favorite ideas/activities and if applicable your math curriculum maps to round table discussion.

 This session is a repeat of the October 22 presentation and is limited to 40 participants.

DescriptionIn this active, hands-on experience, (just for Pre-K and Kindergarten teachers in the Archdiocese of Baltimore), participants will explore the importance of early literacy outcomes including vocabulary, phonological awareness, and letter familiarity; ways of creating a literacy rich environment to promote comprehension and fluency; and effective teaching strategies including play and teacher-guided instruction. 

 This session will provide strong support for effective practices and look at practical application in the classroom:  What does the literacy block look like?  What routines are important to build essential skills?  How do I meet the needs of all of my learners?  How do I provide for all learning styles?  Are rigorous standards developmentally-appropriate in early childhood?  How do I build motivation and create a joyful environment for learning?

Description: In today's shortened PE classes, this presentation will get your students hitting tennis balls anywhere with transition ball and graduated length racquets.  This unit can be taught without a tennis court.  Opportunities are available for free equipment for your school. Title: Holocaust Remembrance Programs 2008

Audience:   Open to all administrators and teachers
Location: Jewish Museum of Maryland, 15 Lloyd Street, Baltimore, MD 21202

Description: This is a Holocaust-themed training session centered on the multi-media curriculum Echoes and Reflections. This ten-part curriculum uses primary source material (documents, maps, photographs, timelines, literature, etc.) and testimony from survivors and other witnesses.  The curriculum was developed through a unique partnership of the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), the Shoah Foundation, and Yad Vashem.

 In addition to Echoes and Reflections, there will be survivor testimony by Rubin Sztajer and a presentation using Sister Rose’s Passion, the Oscar-nominated documentary based on the life and work of Dominican nun, Sister Rose Thering, a pioneer in Jewish-Catholic studies and dialogue.  The day will close with a tour of the Lloyd Street Synagogue, Maryland oldest synagogue.
 

 There is no charge for this program.  Breakfast, lunch and a complimentary copy of Echoes and Reflections will be provided to each participant.
