SAINT
ORAL REPORT – Due ** January 30, 2007 **
Catholic saints are holy people and human people
who lived extraordinary lives. Each saint the Church honors responded
to God's invitation to use his or her unique gifts. God calls each one
of us to be a saint. *
Each
second grade student has searched for the saint that is celebrated on
his or her birthday.
We would like each child to research
information on his or her saint.
Resources may include books, encyclopedias, Internet, etc.
Each child will have to give an oral report, which will include
the following information:
§
Date of birth and death
§
Is the saint a patron saint?
If so, what is he or she the patron of?
§
Name of the place where the saint comes from
§
What special thing did the person do in his or her life,
which made him or her a saint?
§
Another interesting or unique fact
We will be listening during the
report to make sure all of the above information is included.
We will also be grading on oral presentation skills including
eye contact, voice, appearance, etc.
Please feel free to also have your child make use of any drama
skills he or she has learned so far this year.
The students will be expected to
bring in some type of prop to go along with his or her report.
This may include a picture, medal, costume or anything else
creative that comes to your mind.
Remember, this is an ORAL report. It is not a written report.
The students may not read directly from a piece of paper.
The report will need to be well practiced and rehearsed.
All students must be prepared to
present on January 30th.
We will be having students give their reports during Catholic
Schools Week.
There is a useful website link that
can be found on each homeroom teacher’s website under Religion.
Be sure to click on the picture of the speaker for some spoken
information about the saint. Good
luck!!
Thank you,
The Second Grade Teachers

2nd Grade
Book Report: Continents, Countries and Cultures
Each
second grade student will be responsible for completing a book report,
which will be due on
November 28, 2006.
The
book must be a book about a country other than the United States.
Some appropriate book series include Welcome to My Country and
Discovering Cultures. Please choose an age appropriate book, which
will provide the information necessary to complete the book report.
(See below)
The
book must be brought into school on or before
November 6, 2006
to receive approval from your teacher.
Once
the book is read, the children will put together a book report in this
format:
Please write or type each of the following on a separate sheet of
paper and attach the papers to the bag:
·
On the front of the bag
will be the title, author and a picture of the continent on which you
find the country.
·
On the back of the bag
will be an answer to the following question: Would you want to visit
this country? Tell why or why not.
·
On one side of the bag
will be a picture of the country’s flag along with one interesting
fact about the country.
·
On the other side of the
bag, will be a fact sheet including these facts related to the
country: language, religion, capital, typical weather, common jobs.
·
Inside the bag, place
three to four objects related to the book.
During the week of November 28, 2006, each child will show his or her
bag and talk briefly about the four objects chosen and why they were
chosen.
Feel
free to contact us if you have any questions about the assignment.
Thank you,
