Second Grade Research Report DUE: December 10, 2008
In
early 2009, St. Ursula will be participating in Multicultural Week.
The week will include activities which help us learn more about the
cultures and countries of the world. In preparation for
Multicultural Week, the second grade students will be doing a
research report on the countries our classes have been assigned.
The countries include:
2A
Poland 2B Korea 2C Congo
The second graders will be doing a written research report and
short oral report on the country listed above by homeroom. The
report must list at least two different sources including books and
encyclopedias, internet resources and people knowledgeable about the
country. (Dont forget to ask your librarians, who have a wealth of
knowledge.)
The report will be presented using a medium sized gift bag. There
are four main report topics. Each topic will be typed or written
onto one of the four sides of the bag (front, back and two sides).
Two items related to the country must be placed inside the bag.
Each student will be expected to make a short presentation
highlighting what he or she has learned about the country, using the
items in the bag. The oral report will be 1-2 minutes. The
students will be graded on presentation skills including voice, eye
contact, appearance, etc.
Here are the four topics to be covered:
1)
Geography (location, land, climate, etc.)
2)
Country Facts (population, currency, capital, landforms, etc.)
3)
Family Life (religion, language, culture, homes, activities)
4)
Opinion -- If you visited the country, what would you choose to see
and do?
Please take the time to practice the oral portion of the report so
each student feels comfortable with what he or she is going to say.
The students may only use his or her bag and the items inside the
bag during the oral report. He or she should have spent time
thinking and talking about the information at home and practicing
what he or she will say so that the report can be presented easily.
The bags must be brought in by December 10, 2008 and
the oral reports will be presented randomly that week. Please
contact us if you have any questions.
Thank you,
The
second grade teachers
