Dear Parents, I would like to welcome you and your child to the new school year. The physical education program at St. Ursula is designed to help students develop the physical competence necessary for confidence and participation in physical activity for a lifetime. My goal is to teach basic movement skills and sport skills so that students become successful and confident when participating in physical activity. I will put emphasis on improving the students’ knowledge of health related fitness and to teach its importance. I want your child to feel good about moving, which in turn encourages them to be active and healthy. Your child will participate in physical education class once a week for 45 minutes (25 minutes for kindergarten). Your child’s physical education day is --------------. For safety reasons, your child will NOT BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE without the proper physical education uniform (see handbook pg. 21) and footwear. Proper footwear includes a sturdy athletic tie or Velcro shoe with a good tread. Keds style shoes are NOT APPROPRIATE because they have slick soles. Your child will not be able to participate in physical activity if this type of shoe is worn. Students are not permitted to wear jewelry and large plastic or metal hair clips or barrettes. Sport watches are permitted. Students who forget to wear their P.E. uniform to class will be unable to participate and they will receive a verbal warning. Failure to wear their P. E. uniform two times in a marking period will result in a demerit. My discipline policy is three strikes, you're out! There are ten class rules posted in the gym at all times. The rules are verbally reviewed throughout the year. If a student does not follow one of the posted rules, they get a strike. The strike is documented in my behavior book or misbehavior list. Three times on the P.E. misbehavior list will result in a demerit. Demerits should be signed and returned to me or to their homeroom teacher within two school days. Physical fitness testing will be conducted twice a year. Grades 4 through 8 will receive a personal computerized results report. This report provides parents and students with valuable information necessary for individual improvements in levels of fitness. If you have any questions about the physical education policies, please feel free to contact me through the school office. |
