All students grades 1 through 8 participate in fitness testing in the fall and spring. St. Ursula uses the Fitnessgram program (as recommended in the National Standards). All students in grades 4 though 8 will receive a Fitnessgram report at the end of the school year. This computerized summary form will include all the students scores for that years testing. Fitnessgram is a comprehensive health-related fitness and activity assessment and computerized reporting system. All elements within the Fitnessgram are designed to assist teachers in accomplishing the primary objective of youth fitness programs, which is to help students establish physical activity as a part of their daily lives. Health related physical fitness involves several components: aerobic capacity; body composition; and muscular strength, muscular endurance, and flexibility. SHORT TERM OBJECTIVE: To provide students with opportunities to learn fitness components while participating in enjoyable activities that enhance fitness level. LONG TERM OBJECTIVE: To teach students the skills they need to be active for life. With regular activity all students should be able to achieve a score that will place them within or above the Healthy Fitness Zone on all Fitnessgram test items. |
