LAB REPORT CHECK LIST

PLEASE KEEP THIS PAPER ALL YEAR. YOU WILL USE THIS FOR EVERY LAB REPORT INCLUDING THE SCIENCE FAIR.

_____ Title (1 point) This is the title of your experiment. All main words should start with capital letters

_____ Problem (2 points) This should be in question form.

_____ Hypothesis (6 points) This is two parts. It should have your prediction and your reason for the prediction.

_____ Materials (2 points) Simply list all your materials in a column.

_____ Procedures (6 points) Tell what you did. This should be numbered in a step-by-step account of what you did. Use imperative sentences.

_____ Results (6 points) This is a paragraph stating what happened. You take the information from the data sheet or journal and put it in paragraph form. No opinions or assumptions.

_____ Conclusion (12 points) This is three parts all in paragraph form. First, state whether your hypothesis was valid or invalid. It should start "My hypothesis was valid." (It could also be invalid). It should state why it was valid by restating the hypothesis in past tense. The second paragraph should add detail explaining what you have learned when completing this experiment. Interpret the data from your results. The third part of your conclusion is how you can use the knowledge gained. How can you apply this information to real life situations?

_____ Data Sheet/Journal (5 points) This is done on separate paper. It must include the date that the experiment was completed and any observations that were made. A data sheet would have only one date whereas a journal would have a series of dates. Times may be included if they play a part in the collection of the data. This does not have to be in sentence form. It does have to be legible.

_____ Chart/Graph (10 points) This is done on a separate paper. The chart graph should be neat, attractive, and clear. It should be labeled Chart or Graph. It should also have a title that relates to the type of information displayed. Use a ruler to draw lines! Bar graphs and line graphs should be computer prepared or done on graph paper. Graphs should have each axis labeled.

_____ Spelling, Grammar, Neatness (Evaluated but no points awarded)

AS WE BEGIN LAB REPORTS WE WILL START BY COPYING MOST OF THE REPORT AND LEARNING ONE OR TWO PARTS AT A TIME. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ME ANY QUESTIONS IF SOMETHING IS UNCLEAR.
