There is a lot of information and many links for each decade in the chart below. Please explore the site! From 1998 - 2000 my classes participated in the Celebrate the Century Education Series which was a program where students learned about events during the 20th century. Students voted on items to be included on postage stamps featuring some of the events from the last half of the century. I found this to be very valuable and wanted to continue using the information with my students. The United States Postal Service worked with Encarta and Encarta Schoolhouse Web site. I have the entire Celebrate the Century Stamp Series and will be sharing that with the class. We will be looking at people & events, arts & entertainment, sports, science & technology, and lifestyle through the decades. Our culminating activity will be an afternoon where students will learn some dance steps from the decades. They may dress in a costume from any decade in the 20th century. (Bring the clothes to school to change after lunch) Students will learn dances such as the Stroll, Hand Jive, Twist, Swim, Mashed Potato, Hustle, YMCA, Electric Slide, Macarena, and Cha Cha Slide.. This is usually a fun way to learn about history and get a feel for what it was like during that time. We will also have ice cream for the students. The date is Thursday, May 22, from 1 - 2:30 - Mrs. Chris Lorber
