Increase School Branding, Recruitment and Retention: Leveraging Technology for Institutional Achievement

Title: Increase School Branding, Recruitment and Retention: Leveraging Technology for Institutional Achievement

Abstract: In this session we will discuss the impacts you can achieve to your school “brand” in your target recruitment area by leveraging your 21st Century learning and workforce skills use and investment of technology as a learning tool. We will look at other schools approach to this, their positioning of their schools relative to the technology they are using and the comparatives to their public sector learning institutions. We will sample appeals to parents and students via the web, flyers and press notifications in addition to Parent/student Orientation and Visitation Days. We will explore the impacts of participation in conferences and trade shows to raise awareness in the educational arena to create buzz and excitement which can be leveraged for faculty recruitment, grant consideration and other factors. We will look at some data on the impacts to recruitment and subsequent retention attributed to technology integration as well as selected data on student impacts.

Google Apps for Education

Google Apps for Education
Free to educational institutions, Google Apps Education Edition empowers users to create, communicate and collaborate in a whole new way.  This web based set of tools combines’ email, calendar, and productivity software that unlocks information and promotes learning.
By rebranding the Gmail interface with our own domain name and school logo, we were able to deploy email to 1200+ students with no start up costs or costly software or storage.  Administration is centralized and is used to add or remove additional online features such as:  Document, Spreadsheet, and Presentation editors, collaborative calendars, chat, and web pages.
Google Apps is platform independent so it works on Mac and PC, and is supported by most web browsers (IE, Firefox, Mozilla and Netscape) Productivity software is compatible with Microsoft Office and also supports XML file formats.  Technical support is provided to Education Edition users directly from Google and is “Ad Free”.
Calvert Hall will provide the projector and the laptop for this break out session but will need Internet capability provided by John Carroll. The session can be repeated as needed.
